COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Outgoing House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn will assume the newly created position of Assistant Minority Leader when Republican take control of the House.
The Sumter Democrat says he negotiated the position because he didn't want to push any other senior Democrats out of leadership positions.
"This position of assistant minority leader carries with it an appropriations portfolio," Clyburn said. "I will be a liaison between the leadership and the appropriations committee and the house democrats and the white house."
Clyburn also says he doesn't think GOP efforts to repeal health care reform will succeed in the next congress.
