Police: Woman lied about armed robbery

Posted: Updated:

WALTERBORO, S.C. – The Walterboro Public Safety Department has charged Amy Nicole Head of St. George with Breach of Trust and Making a False Report. The charges stem from an investigation of the reported armed robbery at Security Finance, located at 498 Bells Highway, on November 4, 2010.

Head had placed a 911 call and reported that she had been robbed at gunpoint and assaulted by two black males. Her allegations resulted in a multi-agency search and investigation for the alleged suspects. Police say  that during the investigation it was discovered that her story was inconsistent. The charges are a result of subsequent interviews and a polygraph, which according to officials indicated that her initial story was not true.

Police Chief Otis Rhodes said, "It's unfortunate that we had to spend our officers' valuable time to investigate an armed robbery that never happened, but I appreciate the quick assistance we received from both the Colleton County Sheriff's Office and SLED during the response to the initial call and the succeeding investigation."

Anyone with any information about a crime is asked to make a call, which may remain anonymous, to the Walterboro Public Safety at 843-549-1811.
