Students at East Cooper's Montessori Charter School are calling a new building home.
Members from the community helped raise one million dollars to move the students from their old facilities.
Montessori schools use hands-on approaches to teach their students. The parent's of the students at this East Cooper school took a hands-on approach of their own to open the doors of the new 15,000 square foot facility.
"The parent's were hands-on,” says the school’s founder and principal, Jody Swanigan.
“Montessori is all about community, helping the children develop within themselves and having teachers that guide them, so connecting themselves to the environment is very important. [And] so, it is a community effort to get the school open."
The students at East Coopers Montessori School were in trailers for four years before moving into the new facility
Swanigan says the community was so helpful that they were able to build the facility in five months.
"A lot of great feedback, there were a couple of tears this morning at drop off because they have worked with us each and every step of the way," says Swanigan.
162 students are enrolled in the school, which teaches first through eighth grade.
