He says its not a dirty campaign move, but instead the truth. Charleston Mayoral Candidate William Dudley Gregorie is taking to the airwaves with a controversial message. Gregorie says the Sofa Super Store fire is reason enough to not re-elect Mayor Joe Riley. Gregorie says the deadly fire has exposed some serious management issues in the City. Issues he believes Mayor Riley has done nothing to correct.
He's been campaigning for months, but now his message has moved from an introduction, to what he calls the truth. "The most revealing aspect of this fire is that it may be the tip of the iceberg in revealing the possible problems within City Departments," said Gregorie in a recent radio campaign ad.
Gregorie says accountability hasn't been a part of the fire's investigation at all.

"Our ad was to make sure our citizens know, the Mayor and the City continue to discover the obvious in regards to this fire," said Gregorie.
He points to deficiencies in the City's fire hoses as common sense areas to be corrected.
"We don't need a panel to tell us we need larger hoses," said Gregorie. "I find it hard to believe the City fails to replace potentially flammable uniforms to protect our courageous firefighters," said Gregorie.
Gregorie says the lack of management changes since the blaze dishonors the Charleston nine and leaves the City's safety in the hands of a department he believes needs new direction, "tradition caused the deaths of nine courageous firefighters, that itself says there's need for change in the fire department."
Mayor Riley's campaign director says Riley will not respond to Gregorie's ad concerning the fire. He says the tragedy will not be politicized. Tuesday night Mayor Riley will make an announcement about the fire. We'll carry it in its entirety live at six.
