Charleston's very own music festival is back for a second year. Not only is Chazzfest back, but it's back better than ever. Organizers say this year the event has something for everyone.
Thousands filled the Family Circle Cup for a blend of Lowcountry culture and New Orleans sounds for the annual Chazzfest.
"We want to be the people's festival. We're just trying to reach across all sections of a lot of different people. Young people, old people, black people, white people, and everything in between," said Rick Jones with Chazzfest 2007.
Chazzfest 2007 features 16 bands. Its co-headliners are Branford Marsalis and Kool & the Gang. The music festival inspired by the one in New Orleans welcomes gospel and reggae groups to this year's line-up.
Debby Spain drove from Alabama to see one of her favorite bands. She says it was the perfect getaway since her family lives on Daniel Island.
"We just like live music in any form that we can find it. It's a great way to get out, and enjoy things as a family," said Debby Spain visiting from Alabama.
The two year old festival brought in 6,000 people last year. Organizers hope 8,000 come to dance this year.
Todd Curran believes the festival's atmosphere could let organizers reach their goal.
"I just like the atmosphere. I think it is a really great thing. Everybody is smiling, and I want to see some of the bands tonight. It's going to be pretty fun," said Todd Curran who attended Chazzfest 2007.
Organizers say their long-term goal is to reach 12,000 people in attendance for one day. It will consider expanding Chazzfest into three days when it happens.
This year's headliner was supposed to be James Brown who passed on Christmas Day 2006.
