Another Student Diagnosed With MRSA

A Fort Dorchester High school student was diagnosed with MRSA on Monday, the antibiotic resistant staph infection. He told ABC News 4 when he first noticed a sore on his arm.
"It started off as a bug bite and it kept getting more red and felt like a bruise then it got really swollen." The student, who didn't want to be identified, said his arm got worse last Thursday and on Saturday he went to the doctor.
"They told me that they have to do a culture on it to find out what it actually is, and they gave me some antibiotics and a shot and told me to keep it clean," he told us.
The antibiotics didn't clear the infection, and on Monday the doctor informed him that he had the antibiotic resistant infection MRSA.
Several players have had staph infections recently, so Ft. Dorchester High School took action.
"They started cleaning our pads and stuff but really it's no telling how you can catch it. It's just really important to catch it early" the student said.
The student will undergo surgery on Tuesday so doctors can cut out the infection. He's expected to make a full recovery. He will miss at least one football game but hopes to be back in action soon.
Two Colleton County schools were disinfected over the weekend after two students were diagnosed with MRSA last week. District officials say a third student is also being treated for an infection that could be MRSA.
