Ron Paul's Official As He Speaks to Sold-Out Crowd
posted 11:03 am Tue November 27, 2007 - Charleston, SC
As Ron Paul, Republican presidential candidate and Texas congressman, speaks to a sold out crowd at the College of Charleston, two states make him an official candidate.
New York and California have recognized Ron Paul as a serious contender in the '08 election by adding his name to the '08 primary ballot.
California's ballot list will be officially certified on November 29.
In both states commissioners ruled Dr. Paul be placed on the ballot, since he is a "nationally known and recognized" candidate in the media, citing Election Law section 2-122-b(3).
For Ron Paul, being nationally recognized in the media, may have something to do with Websites like techpresident.com, calling Paul the most effective campaigner on the Web. Paul and a team of supporters managed to raise over $4 million dollars in one day via the internet. Paul set a goal to raise $12 million via his Website in the fourth quarter, and he's already raised over 75 percent of that with 34 days left (see graph below).
"Dr. Paul's ballot success in New York is great news for the campaign and for our many grassroots supporters there," said Paul campaign manager Lew Moore. "His message of freedom, peace, and prosperity is enjoyed statewide, and we are ready to compete in the primaries."
The Greater NYC Manhattan Ron Paul 2008 Meetup Group is the second-largest in the country, with nearly 1,000 members. On November 6, Congressman Paul received first place in the New York Young Republicans Club straw poll.
