Here we are, in times of "Do more with less", and firefighters are arguing about uniform stuff. I am a professional firefighter and totally understand and agree it is important to look professional. However, I am also a fan of "Pick your battles." I do not think this is where the union should be striving to make points. 9 people died. 9. What about the families? We owe it to them to make ALL departments safe, or at least as safe as we can make firefighting. They need to focus on hose issues, deployment of those hoses, apparatus design, and incident command, as well as some other issues. Those are the things we are responsible to focus on. Yes, I said responsible. We have a responsibility to the families of the 9 who made the ultimate sacrifice. Keep your eyes on the ball, Charleston.

Nine Firefighters die and the big issue is about uniforms? Get over it. In the wake of their tragedy, I could understand the Firefighters making a stand on staffing, procedures and safety but... t-shirts? You've got to be kidding me. I'm a card carrying member of the IAFF and these guys need to get their priorities straight. Good luck Charleston.

Everyone thought things would change, so here's proof that it stay's the same. The people of Charleston have leaders in positions that do not care about their employees, ot the citizens. Just keep the taxes and the budget low and we get to stay in office. NIMS training is not what they need. They need to attend the National Fire Academy for real, up-to-date classes on how to keep themselves and the public safe. The citizens of Charleston spoke loud when they re-elected Mayor Reiley, keep things the same. So what if we had 9 firemen die, let more die, we don't care. Keep our taxes low!
