CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Charleston Sheriff's Office is looking for a man they say fatally shot his former mother-in-law less than a week after pleading guilty to assaulting his ex-wife.
Authorities say the incident happened around 6:40 Saturday night at a home on Debbenshire Drive. When deputies arrived they found the victim critically injured from 2 gunshot wounds. According to Charleston County Sheriff's Office PIO Major John Clark, the victim was transported to MUSC where she died around 7:20 p.m. The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 66-year-old Linda Hayes.
Authorities say 41-year-old Ronald David Ratliff is wanted for murder in connection with the incident. He is described as a white male who is 5'11" 210 pounds. He was last seen driving a white 2004 Ford Econoline Van with S.C. license plate EPP-250. Investigators say he may be driving to Florida where he has family. Ratliff is believed to be armed with the same hand gun that was used in the shooting.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Ratliff was arrested last fall on Criminal Domestic Violence related to incident on Debbenshire Drive in September. Deputies say he was released from the Charleston County detention center last Tuesday January 18th, after pleading guilty to assaulting his ex-wife in that incident.
Ratliff is no stranger to law enforcement officials. In addition to last fall's domestic violence charge his criminal wrap sheet shows convictions for simple assault, fradulent checks, criminal conspiracy and possession of crack cocaine.
At this time authorities still do not have a motive in Saturday night's shooting. If you have any information on Ratliff's whereabouts, you are urged to call CRIMESTOPPERS 554-1111.
