Meet Al Bradham

Al Bradham Honored for "Compassion, Self Sacrifice, Leadership and Creativity"

Al Bradham, owner of Carpet Care Services and DisasterCare was given the top Humanitarian Award at the national floor care Connections Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas, September 21-23, 2006.  The event, attended by over 3,000, featured Michael E Gerber, author of "The E-Myth," as the keynote speaker.

As noted in the November, 2006 issue of ICS Cleaning Specialist Magazine,

The last award of the evening, the ICS Cleaning Specialist Raph Bloss Humanitarian Award, an award that honors members of the floor care industry whose compassion, self-sacrifice, leadership and creativity produce significant and outstanding benefits for mankind, was awarded to Al Bradham of Carpet Care Services in Summerville, SC.

The annual award is given in celebration of the life of Ralph Bloss, an individual who reached, touched, counseled and inspired thousands of people in the floor care industry. Bradham was nominated for the award by his employees.  An excerpt from the application they submitted included:

"Our boss, Al Bradham, serves as an outstanding example and leader, not only for those of us who work for him, but also for members of our community.  Al is known as someone who will lend a hand and pitch in whenever there's a need.

"A few recent examples… When the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity had an emergency – a flooded home, just days before the dedication, Al brought in a team from our company and dried and restored the home free of charge.  When ‘Children in Crisis' (an organization which serves at-risk children) received a donation of upholstered furniture earlier this year, Al cleaned all of the pieces at no charge.  When he heard, in December, that a grandmother, served by Angle Tree, had asked for her rugs and carpets cleaned as a Christmas gift, he stepped forward and did it all, again, at no charge.

"Al has served for five years as a mentor for Summerville Elementary School.  He meets once a week with a child who needs help in school and spends an hour tutoring him.

"He has provided free emergency services to individuals who own Habitat for Humanity houses (at no charge). He has cleaned the home, furniture and bedding at the Palmetto House, a shelter for the homeless. He has done free cleaning for local public schools, as well as for his church, Bethany United Methodist, Summerville.

"He is a member of the Charleston Rotary; serves each year by collecting food for the Children's Miracle Network.  He takes weeks off his job during the Christmas season to build the sets for his church's "Living Christmas Story" presentation.  And he served, for six years, on the board of our local YMCA.

"Earlier this year, an article about Al's humanitarian work, written by a customer, appeared in our local newspaper, The Summerville Journal Scene.

"But it's not just what Al does, that sets him apart.  It's who he is.  He works hard to make his business successful, but at the same time he cares about his staff and customers, often stepping in as a "stand-in Dad."  Recently, at a staff gathering, one of our employees suggested we nominate him for the community's "Boss of the Year," award.    It's something we all wanted – to see a man who gives so much to everyone, receive a little bit back in return."

About Carpet Care Services and DisasterCare

When Al Bradham purchased Carpet Care Services in 1994 it was a one-man, one-truck operation.  Since then it's become one of the largest flood and fire restoration firms in the southeast with 17 employees, a fleet of trucks and an inventory of over 1,000 drying equipment tools.  Bradham has invested not only in equipment, but in his employees by sending them to the best training facilities and having them certified in several restoration categories.  DisasterCare by Carpet Care Services is a preferred provider for major insurance companies and provides on-going service to MUSC, the College of Charleston and many others.
