Lowcountry Leisure: By Ashley Lindquist

Make this Mother's Day extra special by treating Mom to one of the many events the Lowcountry has to offer this weekend. Whether she likes food, family fun or her furry friends, there is something for every mom.

The Charleston Greek Festival is taking place all weekend at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in downtown Charleston. For just $3, festival goers get a taste of everything Greek, including authentic food, folk dancing, live Greek music and performances and church tours. Moms get in free on Mother's Day.

Make it a dog day afternoon on Saturday! The 8th Annual Charleston Dog Show will be in Marion Square and kicks off at 9 a.m. with a Blessing of the Dogs. Dog vendors, micro chipping and the dog rescue village will be on site until 2 p.m. With educational activities for the children, gourmet lunches and even treats for the pooches. The Charleston Dog Show promises fun for the whole family.

Visit Blackbaud Stadium Saturday morning with The Ruth Rhoden Craven Foundation. The 5K Run/Walk For Moms begins at 8 a.m. and benefits Lowcountry women and families suffering from postpartum depression. Registration is $25, and strollers are welcome. Daniel Island Grille is hosting a kickoff pasta dinner from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday and a post-race reception Saturday at noon.

Live the Kentucky Derby experience without stepping foot outside the Lowcountry. Join fellow race fans at The Woodlands Inn in Summerville on Saturday afternoon for mint juleps and hors d'oeuvres. In true derby fashion, there will be a best hat contest for the ladies and an award for the best dressed Southern gentleman.

McClellanville celebrates its 35th Annual Lowcountry Shrimp Festival and Blessing of the Fleet Saturday at 11 a.m. Southern Charm kicks off live music at 11:30 a.m. with the Blessing of the Fleet at 2 p.m.

Join the MUSC Brain & Spine Tumor Program at the Windjammer Saturday night as they close Brain Tumor Action Week. The benefit concert starts at 7 p.m., and the lineup includes local favorites like The 3 Dudes Band, Souls Harbor-Acoustic, Southern Charm, Jesse & the Trippers and Ben Fagan & the Holy City Hooligans. There will also be a silent auction. Proceeds from the evening go to MUSC brain tumor research.

Don't forget that the North Charleston Arts Festival runs through Saturday. The Charleston Farmers' Market continues each Saturday through December 18 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Other events worth mentioning:
