CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A handful of people watched an S.U.V. burn Wednesday, just feet away from gas pumps.
The Ford Explorer was charred after firefighters sprayed it down on Highway 61 and Sycamore.
Charleston Fire Department Public Information Officer Mark Ruppel said a fire engine was in the area and firefighters saw smoke.
Ruppel said they followed the smoke to the Hess gas station and found the vehicle fully engulfed. It took firefighters about five minutes to put it out.
Ruppel said they don't know how the blaze started but said they don't expect anything suspicious.
