SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- A toxicology report indicates that a man who stole a police car after being tased last week was high on crack.

According to an incident report, Arthur Lee Thompson told officers he stole the car because he wanted to be on TV, he had smoked crack early in the morning and was "very high."

Thompson, 38, was rushed to MUSC on Friday, May 13 after crashing the Dodge Charger into a large truck carrying lawn care equipment.

Officials with the Summerville Police Department said it all began are around 1:20 p.m. as officers responded to reports of a stolen computer and assault on a Wal-Mart Employee. Police say a vehicle occupied by Thompson, parked on the side of the road, matched the description of the vehicle used in the Walmart theft.

Thompson was already out of his vehicle when an officer pulled up and began to ask questions. According to the report, as the officer reached for Thompson's hand to place him under arrest, Thompson jerked away and took a fighting stance.

The officer then shot his taser. Video footage from the officer's dash camera shows Thompson was not affected as he began to attack the officer.

Officials say Thompson then got into the officer's car and drove away, pedal to the floor.

Investigators say Thompson bolted down streets and through intersections at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, finally crashing the car near the intersection of Elks Lodge Lane and North Maple Street. Thompson and both men in the truck into which he collided were transported to local hospitals.

Officials say when Thompson awoke at MUSC he was hostile with officers, threatened officers, admitted he was high on crack and asked if he had made the news.

Insults reportedly continued as Thompson was being booked. Officers said he made derogatory comments to female officers, threatened male officers and bragged about his scuffle with the officer and stealing of the car.
