CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Officers arrived on the scene to find a man lying in the road -- a damaged bicycle nearby.
He was transported to MUSC and later pronounced dead.
The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified the man as 25-year-old Yury Babenko. The coroner said Babenko was originally from Russia, but had been living in West Ashley.
Babenko was riding his bicycle near Old Town Road on Friday night when he was struck by a car. Officials said the man responsible for the deadly accident left the scene.
Police say the driver of the car, Steven Keuhner, was later stopped on Folly Road and arrested. Keuhner was driving a vehicle police say matched a witness description of the car that struck Babenko.
Keuhner has been charged with felony DUI.
The accident is being investigated by Charleston police.
