ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCIV) -- The days of free parking on the Isle of Palms may be over. The town's planning commission has approved parking spots along Ocean Boulevard.
They would be built at four beach access points between 10th Avenue and Breach Inlet. The rest of the area will for islanders, including Carolina and Charleston.
The idea is to ease beach traffic, but some who live there don't like it.
"The values of property, people think they will come down, which probably will, with a parking lot next door," said island James Owens. "They're concerned about the depth from Ocean Boulevard, how far those will go into someone's back yard," he said.
The recommendation for this new parking still needs to be approved by town council.
The parking spots would be metered. But it's too soon to tell just how much they might cost.
