
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- Charleston County School District students earned a record-setting amount of scholarships this past year.
Students in the district earned $47.9 million in scholarships this year, which is a $1.7 million dollar increase from last year.
We spoke with Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Nancy McGinley, about the record-setting numbers.
She told ABC News 4:
"Congratulations to the Class of 2011 for their record-high scholarship earnings! Our mission is to prepare every student to succeed in college and the 21st century workforce, and these scholarship earnings are another strong indication that our schools are improving and more and more of our students are graduating with the skills to thrive in today's world."
The scholarships recorded were from students who graduated in the class of 2011.
