CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Lowcountry teen was charged with reckless homicide and felony DUI following a head-on collision that killed a 72-year-old woman.
The accident happened just after midnight, Sunday morning, where the Septima Clark Parkway enters Interstate 26, just north of Coming Street.
Police say 19-year-old Samuel McCauley was driving east, in the westbound lanes of I-26, the wrong way down the highway. That's when he collided with Eleanor Caperton who was driving west. A police report says both cars were heavily damaged.
They were both rushed to MUSC where Caperton later died.
Bond for McCauley, who is from Mount Pleasant, was set at $100,000. Police have not said where McCauley entered the highway.
