GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCIV) – They know her name and her face from the headlines. Monday, those living at a Georgetown apartment complex sat on their front porches and watched state investigators sweep an apartment in connection to the case of the missing woman.

State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) agents arrived at Sunset Lodge Monday and spent several hours searching through an apartment they blocked off with crime scene tape in connection to Brittanee Drexel's disappearance on April 25, 2009.

Seventeen at the time, Drexel was last seen leaving the Blue Water Hotel in Myrtle Beach. The teenager from Rochester, New York was on spring break with her friends.

Since that time, investigators from the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office and Myrtle Beach Police Department have kept the case active.

A woman, who only wanted to be identified as "Janice" said last week she was staying in an apartment SLED searched.

"I moved into number 22 on a Tuesday and then Wednesday I had to move out to 21 because they said they were doing an investigation on the Brittanee Drexel case. I don't know anything about her. I never knew her," Janice said.

Monday, SLED agents went in and out of the Sunset Lodge room collecting items, removing boxes. Neighbors watched as media from Myrtle Beach, Georgetown and Charleston took over the parking lot.

Investigators refused to comment while on the scene. Several people living at the apartments said their landlord warned them last week that SLED would be searching an apartment on Monday morning in connection with Drexel.

Monday afternoon Dawn Drexel, Brittanee's mother said she spoke with investigators this morning who informed her they would be conducting the search.

"I have all my faith in these investigators. They've been working this investigation and have kept it active," Drexel said. "I just want resolution to find out where Brittanee is or to bring her home."

Myrtle Beach Police Capt. David Knipes said that officers were acting on a tip that a person of interest in the case may have stayed at the apartment complex during the time that Drexel went missing.
