RAVENEL, S.C. (WCIV) -- Over a dozen emergency vehicles responded to the scene on Highway 17 in Ravenel. Officials said a driver struck a man walking with traffic.

Deputies with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office are investigating the fatal auto pedestrian accident.

Jim Brady with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office said it happened at the 4500 block, near Parks Salvage just before 9:30 a.m. One lane of the road was closed for about an hour as crews worked the scene.

The driver's Ford Sedan could be seen with severe damage to the windshield.

Officials with the sheriff's office say the accident is still under investigation. They recommend that pedestrians walking on the side of the road wear bright clothes and walk against traffic.
