CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The race for the White House, runs through the Lowcountry. On Sunday night, Congressman Tim Scott launched his 'First In The South' Presidential Town Hall series.
Congressman Tim Scott says his inspiration for the Town Halls came from the fact that South Carolina has chosen every Republican presidential nominee since Ronald Reagan.
Representative Scott's first guest in the series was former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman. Huntsman was greeted with a standing ovation, as a room full of voters were eager to meet him and hear why he should be the next President of the United States.
"Because I love this country. Because I believe that handing it down to the next generation, less strong, less stable is totally unacceptable," said Governor Jon Huntsman.
The biggest topic on voter's minds at the Town Hall comes at no surprise -- the economy.
Governor Huntsman tackled the issue of the economy, and says he's against government bailouts.
Huntsman also said he's a big supporter of what Boeing has done in the Lowcountry. Huntsman is scheduled to tour the Boeing facility Monday morning.
"I think it's very important for us to continue to focus and keep the spotlight on Boeing," said Representative Tim Scott.
Huntsman also said he's looking forward to seeing the scope of the Boeing production.
"First of all, I want to see Boeing's manufacturing might. It's one of the great companies in America. Our country's largest export," Huntsman said.
The battle between Boeing and the National Labor Relations Board is also on his mind. The National Labor Relations Board is arguing that Boeing only established a facility in North Charleston as retaliation for union strikes in Washington.
"I think it's an absolute shame that the president hasn't told the Labor Board to stand down on something that's critically important as SC job creation," Huntsman said.
The Town Hall gave Huntsman a chance to get up close and personal with South Carolina voters. Huntsman and Scott signed off the event Sunday night with a serenade to President Obama of the song 'Hit The Road Jack.' Scott provided the vocals, while Huntsman added the keyboard.
Congressman Scott says he hopes to host all the Republican Presidential candidates in his Town Hall Series before the South Carolina primary in February of 2012. Michele Bachmann is slated to appear on August 25th.
