CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- New details have emerged in a light-sport aircraft crash that killed two people off Dewees Island last month.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released the results of the investigation into the crash, and the report states that witnesses reported seeing the aircraft doing loops in the air before it fell from the sky.

According to the report, a witness saw a wing of the aircraft fold and then saw the small aircraft fall from the sky straight into the water.

Killed in the crash were local business owner Lucas Smith and Cara Lee Donohue. Smith was the owner of Pelican Cleaners and the owner and captain of Osprey Boat Charters, headquartered in Sullivan's Island.

Donohue was one of Smith's employees.

Early results of the investigation revealed the aircraft was not registered and that Smith did not have the appropriate certification required to operate the aircraft.
