SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- The South Carolina Highway Patrol has charged a 25-year-old man with DUI, just hours after launching their statewide Sober or Slammer campaign.

According to Corporal Bob Beres, the accident happened around 2:30 Saturday morning when a 2003 Mitsubishi crashed into the back of a Ford C& B Fire truck on US-17A near Long Street.

Beres says the firetruck was parked in the far right lane with its emergency lights on, helping with a previous accident just north of I-26.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, Jonathan Russell was transported to Trident Hospital where he was treated and released.

Russell was not wearing a seatbelt during the accident, and is being charged with DUI.

This accident is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
