South Carolina Aquarium unveils master plan

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, SC (WCIV) -- The South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston is considering some changes and additions that would make the facility even more interactive and exciting.

The aquarium unveiled a master plan with possible upgrades that could cost almost $69 million, which is the original cost of the facility.

Kevin Mills, the President and CEO of the aquarium, says they are looking forward to introducing new animals and exhibits people have been asking for.

Some of the new features discussed in the plan are a walkway through a shark tank, a butterfly garden, and a huge whale suspended from the ceiling.

The changes won't happen overnight, but would be spread out over the next 10 years. The money for the projects would have to come from grants and donations, since the aquarium is a non-profit organization.
