Cottageville officer cut from squad

Posted: Updated:

COTTAGEVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Cottageville Police officer investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been laid off.

Cottageville Mayor Margaret Steen said officer Randall Price was laid off due to budgetary reasons, not because of the recent incident in which the town's former mayor was shot and killed by Price's gun.

Steen said she made a commitment that Price would be on paid leave until SLED completed its investigation.

She said SLED informed her last week that the investigation was completed and that Price had been told he would be laid off, effective ar the end of the current pay period (Wednesday).

Price's departure will leave Cottageville with two full-time officers.

Steen is not sure if the results of the investigation have been turned over to the solicitor.
