CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- So what does the local library do to compete with the Kindle? It offers free downloads.
The Charleston County library now offers more than 1,200 eBooks to download for free. They include best sellers, new releases, children's books and the classics. What's more, the library expects to download 1,000 more books in the coming year.
The books are compatible with most common portable devices, like iPads, Kindles, Nooks and Sony Readers. They can also be read on PCs and Macs.
Got a library card? You can download two eBooks at a time and put two others on hold. They automatically expire in 14 days.
Don't have a computer? No worries, the library has those as well.
