MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- A community came together to remember the life of a young man stabbed to death outside a Mount Pleasant Walmart.
Mount Pleasant Police say Darius Green stabbed David Moultrie outside the store in broad daylight. Moultrie stumbled into the store lobby on Wednesday, where he collapsed and died. Green is charged with his murder.
Tuesday's vigil took place outside the giant retailer located inside the Oakland Shopping Center off Highway 17 North. It was organized by the group, Big Uncle Mentoring Program.
"The David I know was very easy going, smiles, keeps going, that's David," said Anthony Cummings, the founder of the organization.
Cummings hoped Monday's vigil served as a wake up call to area youth that violence is not the answer.
"We want to reach out and find ways to empower our youth and find ways to make them better citizens," Cummings said.
Family members say Moultrie and his father both worked at the giant retailer.
"He was always by his daddy's side," said the victim's great aunt, Geneva Gathers. "When he got killed he was on the job."
Family members are left without a motive for the killing.
"We don't know the reason or why," said Gathers.
However, loved ones and organizers hope his death doesn't go in vain.
"I just hope that the young kids will see that you're not safe any place and hope they just take a look at themselves," said Gathers.
Moultrie's funeral will take place Wednesday, October 5th starting at noon at Greater Goodwill AME Church in Mount Pleasant.
Moultrie is survived by his parents and four siblings.
