CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Less than a year after leaving the Governor's Mansion, Mark Sanford has reportedly taken a position working for Fox News.

Multiple media outlets are reporting that a spokesperson for Fox News says Sanford will be a paid contributor for the cable network.

While serving two terms as Governor in South Carolina, Sanford was long believed to be a possible candidate in the 2012 Republican presidential nomination race. But those rumors came to an end, after Sanford admitted to having an affair in 2009 to Maria Chapur.

According to the New York Times, Sanford will appear prominently at the debate Fox News is holding in South Carolina in January, and is expected to stay with Fox beyond the general election.

In late August ABC News 4's Dean Stephens spoke to Sanford at his childhood home in Beaufort County. He said he spent the eight months after leaving office there, to take a break.

During the interview, Sanford also admitted he is ready to leave his home on the farm, and expressed his interest in joining a cable news network.
