CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- A 5-year-old girl and her father were shot early Tuesday morning at their home on Pierpont Avenue.

Around 1 a.m., Charleston County Sheriff's deputies responded to 1733 Pierpont Avenue for what was originally described as an attempted break-in and shooting. They found a 37-year-old man and his 5-year-old daughter, both with gunshot wounds. The mother and two other children were also inside the residence but they were not injured.

According to the father, the suspect knocked at the door and began shooting through it.

The young girl was rushed to MUSC with what investigators are calling life threatening injuries.  Charleston EMS confirmed the child's father is expected to recover.

There is no information available on the suspect.
