CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - Cindy Stokes, a registered nurse at MUSC, was awarded the 2011 Cherokee Inspired Comfort Award Wednesday.

The award provides nurses, healthcare workers, and their colleagues a chance to recognize their peers.

"This was a wonderful honor to even be nominated for this award," Stokes said. "I am just thrilled that I won. I take care of these patients not to win awards, but because I love them and I love their families."

Since 2003 more than 9,000 healthcare professionals have been nominated for the award.
