CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Officials with the South Carolina Highway Patrol have confirmed a man has been charged in an accident that sent a Charleston County deputy to the hospital last night.
According to Cpl. Bob Beres with the SCHP, 53-year-old Robert Blankenship of Summerville has been charged with driving too fast for conditions. He was driving a 2001 Toyota pickup truck.
Beres said Blankenship caused a domino effect on I-26 Monday night. He said Blankenship hit the deputy's car, which then hit a car, causing a collision with a fourth car.
Charleston County Sheriff's Office spokesman Jim Brady said deputy Presley Gaskins was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
According to the highway patrol, Gaskins was the only person injured in the crash.
