In light of coach's arrest, rec leader says coaching may change

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Not too long ago Mount Pleasant Recreation director Ken Ayoub sat in his office with Louis "Skip" ReVille. The 32-year-old man wanted to coach. Ayoub says he never imagined the man would later be behind bars.

Last week, Mount Pleasant police arrested ReVille and the charges began to pile. He is accused of molesting five teenage boys and charged with several counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and lewd act with a child. With a clean background check, some like Ayoub were floored.

"We got back into the office on Monday and the first thing I did was say ‘I want to know the extent of his involvement in our program.' Because I knew he was involved with us in some ways," Ayoub said.

Ayoub says ReVille coached during the summers of 2009, 2010 and 2011 at both Park West and the tennis courts on Whipple Road. He also coached basketball. In light of the accusations, Ayoub says coaching will have to change.

"It's gotten to the point where we're going to tell our coaches, ‘Coaches, I don't know if I'd give a child a ride home. Child needs to go to the restroom, don't take him.' You've got to start doing these things. Don't put yourself in a situation where you're basically one-on-one with a child," Ayoub said. "If I have someone come in now and say ‘Hey I want to coach. I'd like to be involved with this and this, and anything I can do to help,' I'm going to be somewhat skeptical myself."

As for ReVille, Ayoub has few words.

"I reserve comment on what can happen to him," he said.
