Catholic diocese didn't run background check on ReVille

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- The Catholic Diocese of Charleston has released a statement admitting that they did not run a background check on Louis "Skip" ReVille before hiring him in 2008.

Their policy that required all employees and volunteers with access to children to undergo a background check was adopted in 2003. ReVille was not subjected to a background screening.

The Diocese said they did not know why ReVille wasn't screened or given a safe environment training session.

"The Diocese regrets this very much," they said in their statement. "The Diocese is unaware of any Bishop England student who has reported being abused by Mr. ReVille while he was the tennis coach at the school."

The Bishop has requested that anyone in the Bishop England family that has any information relevant to the case against ReVille please contact police.
