Fund set up for family of snakebite victim to help with medical bills

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- While 8 year-old Zach Szala battles the poisonous effects of a rattlesnake bite, his family is battling medical bills.

Zach's aunt says while there have been improvements to his liver and kidneys, Zach cannot breathe on his own. He also has facial paralysis, which can be a side effect to a venomous bite.

According to the Berkeley County School District, First Federal Bank has created the "Zachary Szala Recovery Fund" to assist the family with the enormous costs associated with his ongoing treatment.

Anyone can contribute to the fund at any First Federal location. The account is listed under Zach's mother's name: Elizabeth J. Szala, and the account number ends in 6883.
