CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Officials with The Peninsula Fire Investigation Task Force has requested the public's help in locating a man who alerted a woman to a fire outside her door.

On December 3 at about 4 a.m. a woman at 54 Vanderhorst awoke to a man knocking on her door. She said he told her about the fire in her breezeway.

Officials said the fire began in a plastic recycling bin.

Fire officials have not yet said whether this fire is linked to the string of arsons in the downtown area dating back to 2002. However, they are investigating the incident as "suspicious."

Anyone with information on the witness to the fire is asked to call the Charleston Police Department or the Charleston Fire Department at 843-577-7434.
