First energy efficient Habitat for Humanity home ready for family

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - After months of construction, the first energy efficient home built for Habitat for Humanity is ready for its family.

The Net Zero energy house was built with a super-insulated building envelope and also serves as a renewable energy source.

The house will be a new model for future habitat projects.

"That's been really one of the fun things about it. Teaching the volunteer labor and the Rotarian labor the techniques to make something air tight and energy efficient so they can carry that into the world and grow the knowledge," Charles Muldrow, an architect on the project.

A habitat family will move into the home just in time for Christmas.
