Former Charleston County Sheriff's deputy arrested

CHARLESTON, S.C., (WCIV)-- A former Charleston County Sheriff's Deputy was arrested for stealing on the job.

43 year-old Troy Leo Capps of North Charleston was charged with two counts of misconduct in office and one count of grand larceny.

Following an investigation by SLED, Capps is accused of taking money two separate times while executing search warrants in October.

The first time was at an apartment on Tedder Street in North Charleston on October 25th. The second was at a home on Curtiss Avenue in Charleston on October 27th.

The money was later found in Capps' assigned sheriff's deputy car.

The amount of money taken was not disclosed but the grand larceny charge specifies that the amount is between  $1,000 and $5,000.

According to Chief Deputy John Clark with the Charleston County Sheriff's Department, Troy Capps was hired by the sheriff's office in November of 2008. This October, he was placed on administrative leave with pay.

As the result of an internal investigation by the sheriff's office he was placed on administrative leave without pay on November 2nd. He then resigned from the sheriff's office on December 1st.
