Funeral for slain SC police officer to be held

AIKEN, S.C. (AP) -- Large crowds are expected at the memorial service for an Aiken police officer shot and killed during a traffic stop.

The funeral for Officer Scotty Richardson is scheduled to be held Tuesday at noon at the University of South Carolina Aiken Convocation Center.

Richardson died Wednesday after being shot in the head during a traffic stop at an apartment complex. Another officer was shot and injured.

Police have charged 19-year-old Stephon Carter with murder and attempted murder in the incident. Carter is currently recovering from a gunshot wound at a hospital. It wasn't immediately clear Monday if he has a lawyer yet.

A candlelight vigil in Richardson's honor was held Monday night on the front lawn of the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
