Nicole Miller's life to be honored through music

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Friends of Nicole Miller say she loved music and going to concerts. They didn't know the music festival they attended together in West Virginia last July would be her last.

Since then, her friends, Rosie Doran and Yen Ton, have been planning a way to memorialize their friend. For them, there was no better way than a concert in honor of their friend's life.

"This would have meant the world to her because it's one of her favorite bands. She's really obsessed with the lead singer and we met him and she would love him to be a part of her life," Ton said.

Paul King, whose daughter went to school with Nicole, and does promotional work, has done all the planning for this event. He was a huge part in bringing Nicole's favorite band to play, "SOJA."

"Their basically back in the U.S. for three shows and were delighted this is one of the three shows they've come back for," King said.

The band agreed for a portion of the proceeds to go to a scholarship in Nicole's name at Trident Technical College where she was a culinary student.

Mayor of Mount Pleasant, Billy Swails, has proclaimed December 30th as "Nicole Miller Day." Town council members will be at a private reception prior to the concert to honor Nicole's father, Kim Miller.

Ton and Doran say Nicole would be very proud and ecstatic about this concert honoring her.

"She'll probably be on stage with us," they said with giggles.

Friends and family gathered at the Music Farm Thursday to prepare for the show. Friend Lockwood Freeman said this would mean so much to Nicole.

"I know she'll be here with us tomorrow night. It's just sad we can't have her actually be here with us."

There will be a private reception before the doors open.

The concert starts at eight at the music farm in downtown Charleston.

Tickets are $25 at the door, but can also be purchased online. So far, more than 500 tickets have been sold. The venue holds 900.
