Tulsa Shock Trade Andrea Riley

The Tulsa Shock have made a trade, sending former Oklahoma State guard Andrea Riley to the Phoenix Mercury for Temeka Johnson.

Johnson -- who was the WNBA's Rookie of the Year in 2005 -- is a 5'3" point guard who averaged 6.4 points and 4.4 assists per game for the Mercury last season, including 30 starts.

The seven-year WNBA veteran has started 181 of the 198 games she has appeared in with career averages of 7.9 points and 4.5 assists.

"She brings veteran experience that will help lead this team from the point guard position," says Shock President Steve Swetoha. "She's exactly the type of high character and experienced player that we want to build this team around in 2012."

Riley averaged six points and 1.8 assists with Tulsa last season and was a standout at Oklahoma State, leading the Cowgirls to three trips to the NCAA Tournament. As a senior, she averaged 26.7 points per game and was honored with the Nancy Lieberman Award, given every year to the top female point guard in the NCAA.

She was the first OSU women's player ever selected in the WNBA Draft, being chosen by the Los Angeles Sparks with the eighth overall pick in 2010.

"We wish Andrea nothing but success with Phoenix and we thank her for her contributions this past season," said Swetoha.

The WNBA season gets underway this June.
