MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) Fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire at a junkyard Tuesday night.
Firefighters were called to the scene on Ben Barron Lane around 6:30 p.m. and found a very large pile of debris burning upon arrival. Crews with the Moncks Corner Fire Department quickly realized they could not battle the blaze on their own.
"We called in 12 different departments," said David Miller, Moncks Corner Fire Department Chief.
"I guess the main concern we have at this point is water runoff and contamination, but we're not really saying we have contaminants here. We've got county EPD and DHEC has been on scene. They'll be back tomorrow sometime to monitor the runoff."
Miller says this isn't the fire time crews have paid a visit to the junkyard.
Fire crews knew there was a propane storage area on the back of the property, but they quickly secured the area before the fire could spread.
No one was injured in the fire and the cause is still under investigation.
