NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Marble floors and leather seats, Mitt Romney certainly travels in style. The GOP hopeful's campaign bus was driven right into the Convention Center in North Charleston Friday for one last Lowcountry rally.
Romney had few events in Charleston the last week, but says he's soaked up the sun in the Lowcountry.
"Charleston is one of the most beautiful cities in the country and a couple of days ago I went to Jenny Sanford's home on the beach on Sullivan's Island and Anne and I walked along the beach and looked at Fort Sumter across the harbor," Romney said.
Jenny Sanford isn't the only South Carolinian Romney has rubbed elbows with. Governor Nikki Haley even got a birthday serenade from Romney at a campaign stop Thursday.
Despite the playfulness, Romney says she's tough, which is why he says he's proud to have her endorsement.
"Governor Haley is a no nonsense conservative and her support of my effort lets people in the state know I'm like her I'm no nonsense I'm conservative," Romney said.
The GOP hopeful has been here before, but says this time the palmetto state is playing a leading role in his play for the presidency.
"Well this time South Carolina is really a focal point of my campaign. Last time there were so many folks running and were so far ahead of me in the polls. I came in fourth here, but this time I thought I could come in first or second in South Carolina. There are a lot of delegates here."
When asked about a vice presidential candidates, Romney says he feels it would be presumptuous to even be thinking about it.
