CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Despite Santorum's third place loss to Gingrich and Romney respectfully, supporters chanted "We pick Rick" as the former Pennsylvania governor entered Mark Clark Hall at The Citadel with his wife and 6 of his 7 children. His message of faith, family and freedom stood firm with the men and women behind him.

Very respectfully, Rick Santorum took the stage to congratulate Newt Gingrich on the victory and asked for applause from his supporters. Santorum took time to congratulate his opponents.

"I had the pleasure to congratulate my friend Gingrich…he's been up and he's been down but, he's never stopped fighting," Santorum said.

He said it was a family decision to run for president and praised the Tea Party for their support.

Santorum continually spoke of his belief in faith, family and freedom, saying "This race and this campaign was not going to be about negative ads and tearing down others, it was going to be about working class values like my grandfather taught me."

"Let me assure you, we will go to Florida and then were going to Arizona and Colorado and Maryland, all across this country. We're going to deliver a little different message than the other folks in this race," said Santorum as the crowd chanted.

"I'm going to go out and talk about how we're going to have a Republican party, a conservative movement that makes sure that everyone in America has the opportunity to rise."

To chants of "USA!" from the crowd, Santorum said "Tell America it's a wide open fight. Join the fight!"

As Santorum finished his speech, a group of Charleston occupiers began to shout, "Santorum, Santorum, you bigot, goodbye". The chants quickly turned into a protest where occupiers were pushing and shoving throughout the crowd.

One Occupy protester threw red glitter at Santorum and ran out of the room.

To the frustration of supporters in attendance, the occupy protesters made no friends as more entered the room and threw green and purple glitter into the air as they chanted obscenities.

Some Santorum supporters fought back, pushing an occupier's head and shouting "Get them out of here!" as protesters were forced outside of the watch party.

A source with the Occupy movement said the attack was planned at the very last minute saying they "couldn't resist."

Their plan was to chant "Santorum, Santorum, You Bigot, Goodbye." In the tune of the song 'Na Na Na Goodbye.'
