CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – Precious cargo was flown into Charleston this week – a heart expected to help preserve the smile of a 3-year-old girl.

Morgan Porter is doing as well as doctors had hoped, following the heart transplant at MUSC on Wednesday morning. For the first time in months, she is expected to soon be able to walk without the web of tubing attached to the machine keeping her alive.

Morgan was admitted to MUSC Children's Hospital in July after getting sick at her Beaufort home. Eight days later, she became just the third pediatric patient at the hospital to receive the Berlin Heart. Six months after the device was implanted, Morgan was matched with a heart and underwent an 8 hour heart transplant.

ABC News 4 was inside the operating room as she underwent the procedure. We will bring you exclusive coverage on air and online next week.
