Fire ravages Moncks Corner home

Posted: Updated:

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV)—A fast-moving and aggressive fire torched a home at the corner of Robbin and Gants Street.

Whitesville fire officials told ABC News 4 the fire sparked around 7:30 Sunday night.

Flames could be seen shooting high into the night sky.

Neighbors called 9-11 soon after reportedly hearing several explosions.

"The explosions were probably windows that were breaking out from the fire." Chief Timothy Stephenson with the Whitesville Fire Dept. said. He also said the home collapsed within seven minutes of it catching fire.

The two-story wooden framed home belongs to Charlie Powell, former owner of the Summerville Speedway.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Chief Stephenson said the fire does not appear to be suspicious but the cause is still under investigation.

The Berkeley County Sheriff's Dept. has taken over the case and they have called SLED for assistance.
