
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- South Carolina Stingray Phillip Grubauer has gotten his second award from the ECHL in three months. He has been named Reebok Hockey ECHL Rookie of the Month for January.
20-year-old Grubauer has helped the Stingrays achieve an 11-2-0 record in January. He went 7-1-0 with one shutout, a 1.66 goals-against average and a save percentage of .935 in nine appearances during the month.
The native German began the month with at least 27 saves in four of six consecutive wins. He allowed two goals or less in six of his eight starts in January and in 18 of his 28 games this season. Grubauer has 17 wins, and is tied for second in the league, he is third in the league with a 2.14 goals-against average and fifth with a .922 save percentage.
The 6-foot-1, 186-pound goaltender was named the ECHL Goaltender of the Month in November after going 6-1-1 with one shutout, a 1.73 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage in eight appearances during the month.
The Stingrays battle the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday, February 3rd at 7:35 p.m. at U.S. Bank Arena and return to the North Charleston Coliseum Tuesday, February 7th against the Greenville Road Warriors at 7:05 p.m.
