CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – The Susan G. Komen foundation has reversed a decision to deny breast screening funding to Planned Parenthood.

The organization apologized on Friday for the move on Tuesday to adopt criteria excluding Planned Parenthood from receiving funding because of pending government investigation.

Planned Parenthood said it was extremely grateful for the change of heart and Charleston representatives say they are relieved.

"That was a great surprise for us. We've had a long history of a great relationship with them throughout the country and we were shocked to see they were going to stop letting us apply for grants," Charleston Planned Parenthood organizer Sloane Whelan said.

Yet some groups are upset by the reversal. The Faith and Freedom Coalition released the following statement on Friday:

"It is deeply disappointing that Susan G. Komen for the Cure found it necessary to reverse its decision to end grants to Planned Parenthood, which is currently under investigation for numerous alleged violations of the law, does not offer mammography services to women, and failed to comply with Komen's guidelines and metrics for grantees. It is unfortunate that Planned Parenthood put politics ahead of women's health. This issue will not go away."

Before Komen announced the reversal, Planned Parenthood was flooded with donations, bringing in $400,000 in just 24-hours.
