Boeing responds to reports of manufacturing problems

Posted: Updated:

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV)-- Boeing has released a statement addressing the reported  problems with the 787 Dreamliner.

"Boeing has found that incorrect shimming was performed on support structure on the aft fuselage of 787s. The incorrect shimming is limited to four locations.

The issue is well understood and it has been determined that there is no short-term safety concern. In keeping with our standard response for build-quality issues, all 787s will be inspected for this condition.

These repairs will be implemented in the most-efficient manner possible. The repair work is
straightforward and can be accomplished with standard repair processes. We expect that it can often be accomplished concurrent with other planned work on affected airplanes.

There is no short-term safety concern. There is no need to conduct the inspections or repairs on
in-service airplanes immediately. The process for in-service airplanes will be completed as efficiently as possible."

Reports surfaced on Sunday that the pieces used to hold the 'skin' onto the plane weren't put on properly causing delamination.
