Wildfires burn 23 acres in Horry County

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Fire officials say two wildfires burned nearly two dozen acres in Horry County.

South Carolina Forestry Commission spokesman Scott Hawkins says firefighters responded to one fire around 1 p.m. Wednesday when a planned fire got out of control.

Hawkins says the fire eventually burned about 20 acres before it was controlled around 4:15 p.m.

He says one person was ticketed with allowing a fire to spread, which carries a maximum fine of $470.

Firefighters were called to a smaller fire shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. It burned three acres No citation was issued for that blaze.
