CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The man arrested at the end of the high speed chase through Mount Pleasant has filed a petition.

It's a petition to have his bond reduced.

Timothy McManus is still in jail with a bond amount more than $100,000. He is charged with failure to stop for blue light (first offense) and resisting arrest.

The incident involving McManus has garnered a whole lot of attention after Charleston sheriff Al Cannon admitted to slapping him in the back of a police car and video surfaced that showed officers hitting McManus.

Since, groups like the ACLU have questioned the use of force by officers involved and petitions have been launched by those in the community both calling for the resignation of the sheriff and supporting him.

The case is currently under investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
