CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – The South Carolina Forestry Commission issued a Red Flag Fire Alert for all counties within its Pee Dee and Coastal regions, effective at 7:00 p.m. Saturday night.
The alert does not outlaw outdoor burning, though the Forestry Commission strongly advises against outdoor burning until weather and fuel conditions improve. An approaching weather system is expected to bring high winds, low humidity and only small amounts of rain to the region. These conditions will make debris burns difficult to control and they support the spread of wildfires.
At 5:00 p.m. Saturday, the Forestry Commission reported 13 active fires statewide.
